The Neighbor to Neighbor Poker Run is an easygoing, joy-filled way to be out in the community with people you care about, all while supporting the work of welcome. It’s designed for everyone: friends, families, coworkers, and neighbors who want to connect, explore local spaces, and show up together.
It’s also a good way to help us reach our $5,000 goal for the Newcomer Assistance Fund. Every hand purchased helps strengthen our community and ensures our newest neighbors have the support they need to thrive.
What's a Poker Run?
A poker run is a fundraising game where participants visit five checkpoints in downtown South Bend, drawing a playing card at each stop. The goal is to assemble the best poker hand by collecting cards throughout the run. This hand will be presented at the sixth and final stop. What makes it exciting is that your success isn’t determined by skill and cards are concealed in colored envelopes, adding an element of surprise and anticipation to the game.
Buying Hands
Before 1:00pm on April 25, purchase hands online at $50, $25, or $10 a hand. Each type of hand goes into a different level of "pot" for a different prize. The more hands you buy, the better your chances to win…so stack that deck. 😉
Community Locations
On Saturday, April 25 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm, swing by five locations starting at the N2N office (803 Lincolnway West, South Bend), where you'll be given a map and a collection bag for your hands. Then you'll move on to four other stops. At each stop, you'll pick up one card per hand that you purchased. Then at 3:00pm, bring your hands to the final stop...
Final Stop

After you’ve gathered your cards around town, come hang out at Stockroom East. Turn in your cards before 3:10pm, grab some light refreshments, jump into a pick-up card game, and connect with friends old and new. We’ll be grooving to the eclectic sounds of local favorite DJ Chuck Fry, so expect good vibes all afternoon.
Prizes
The best hand from each pot will win a prize. The prizes for the pots are as follows:
- $150 Roselily giftcard for the $50 pot
- $100 Cloud Walking giftcard for the $25 pot
- $50 Brain Lair Books giftcard for the $10 pot
Merchandise from Neighbor to Neighbor will also be given out.
Newcomer Assistance Fund
Neighbor to Neighbor’s Newcomer Assistance Fund steps in when unexpected expenses threaten a family’s stability, covering things like urgent medical needs, school supplies, transportation, and other critical gaps while families establish new roots here in northern Indiana.
When you participate in the Poker Run, you’ll be standing alongside newcomer neighbors and helping build a community where no one has to navigate a crisis alone. It’s a simple, joyful way to show up together and make sure our newest neighbors feel supported and welcomed.
