Fremont Film Screening, Reception, and Panel

In honor of World Refugee Day and Immigrant Heritage Month, join us on Thursday, June 26 at 5:30pm-8:00pm for a screening of the film Fremont, about a young Afghan woman working in a fortune cookie factory while adjusting to life in the US after the fall of Kabul.

The screening will take place in the Leighton Auditorium in the Community Learning Center at the downtown St. Joseph County Public Library. The event will kick off with a reception to be held at 5:30pm, followed by a 6:00 panel discussion led by a family of Afghan newcomers, and will end with the 6:30 screening.

In the lead up to the event, organizers are asking for fortune cookie ideas to be submitted to then be baked into fortune cookies. The message for your fortune can be anything, but some ideas are:

• a message of welcome to a new neighbor
• a favorite idiom, proverb, or poem
• a famous saying from your home country
